Laura Parr

Head of Employment Tax , Midlands

Main line: 01332 332 021

I am Head of Employment Tax based in Smith Cooper’s Derby office, but I work across all the Smith Cooper offices. I offer clients advice on a wide range of employment tax issues including: all benefits and expenses; termination packages; HMRC reviews; salary sacrifice arrangements; and, construction industry tax.

What can I do for your organisation?
I provide a comprehensive range of advisory and consulting services tailored specifically to your business needs in order to effectively manage the potential risk in this area, identify possible savings from the costs of employment and help you structure your employment tax affairs to ensure compliance with HMRC’s ever-increasing legislation.

Experience counts
I originally worked for HMRC as a PAYE Compliance Officer before moving to a ‘big four’ accountancy firm where I headed up the Midlands Employment Tax Team. After nineteen years, I made the decision to move to Smith Cooper who were already embracing specialisms. In my role now, I concentrate on local businesses with a focus on the middle market, as they do not often receive the specialist advice they deserve!

Throughout my career, I have advised clients on a range of issues including implementing effective dispensation agreements, PAYE settlement agreements, payroll and RTI, termination payments, employment status issues, managing HMRC inspection reviews, and implementing a wide range of salary sacrifice arrangements to maximise pay for employees and give the employer some payroll savings. Having moved to Smith Cooper, I now bring this extensive knowledge of employment taxation issues to support my clients.

Deeper knowledge
Whilst I focus on the design and implementation of employment tax policies to reduce potential PAYE tax bills, I am also highly experienced in providing advice and assistance to business owners who have been picked up for an enquiry by HMRC. During the enquiry I can help to manage the process and give clients the support they need, which will reduce their risks and the potential impact on the wider business.

Personally speaking
When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I relax by cooking for friends and family and playing live music.
