I am the Head of Tax for Smith Cooper, operating across the region with a base in our Birmingham office. I combine a 23-year background in accounting, auditing and tax, 11 of which was as a KPMG partner, with boardroom experience to offer constructive challenge and strategic advice.
I am also a non-executive director of the Heart of England Foundation Trust.
What can I do for your organisation?
I use the extensive skills and experience built up over my career to work with businesses, helping them to grow while managing and mitigating their tax risks and liabilities.
I am a fully qualified chartered accountant (FCA) and tax adviser (ATII) and have worked closely with clients and teams in many industries, including retail, manufacturing, sport, automotive, property, not-for-profit, the public sector and transport.
I began my professional career working with Lowe McTernan, before moving in 1990 to KPMG, where I undertook a variety of roles, achieving promotion to tax partner in 2001 as well as taking the role of lead partner for many clients.
During my time at KPMG, I advised a broad range of clients, becoming trusted adviser to many, providing advice covering tax, structuring, strategy, risk management and governance. I also developed and rolled out a new service line for the UK firm, set up a corporate tax department and settled significant disputes with HMRC in respect to structured planning as well as routine disputes.
I was a finalist for the prestigious Midlands Business Woman of the Year Award (2007), and I am also a board director/chair for Birmingham Forward, where I have worked on setting the strategy and leading the organisation through a period of significant change.
Based on the practical and boardroom experience I have gained during my career, I can help drive your business forward, by working with you to help you anticipate and challenge the future direction and strategy for your industry and to help you to analyse and assess what your business will look like with a view to maximising future profit potential.
I am married with two children and enjoy spending time with my family. I regularly watch and participate in sport. As a season-ticket holder I am often seen at Leicester Tigers with my family, as well as supporting both of my children in their chosen sports.
I have taken part in various charity challenges, including the London Triathlon, a Guinness Book of Records tae kwon do demonstration for Barnardo’s, a ski challenge for Scope and sponsored runs, among many others!
I also work with schools as much as I can by mentoring and training children, and I am currently treasurer for St John’s Church, Walmley.
