I am the Head of VAT and indirect taxes for Smith Cooper. Although based in Derby, I operate across the region.
What can I do for your organisation?
The rules and regulations relating to VAT and other indirect taxes can be complex. Getting it wrong can create a significant cost to companies, especially when you take into account penalties and interest charges.
From compliance reporting and in-depth process reviews to general consultancy and advice on transactions, our services can be tailored to meet your requirements.
With over 17 years’ experience, I have worked on VAT and other indirect tax issues from all perspectives, including for HMRC, managing the indirect tax function of a FTSE 100 equivalent business and 14 years within the ‘big four’ up to the level of director.
I have extensive experience of VAT partial exemption, HMRC inspections and disputes, litigation and instructing counsel, and place-of-supply and fixed establishment issues, as well as advising on all indirect tax aspects of transactions.
During my time within the big four, I was responsible for indirect tax services to the leisure and gaming industry, as well as offering subject matter expertise on business advisory projects within this sector.
My wife tells me that I spend too much time on the golf course, although I am not sure that this is even possible! My other sport is football, and as a lifelong Derby fan, I have experienced many highs and lows over the years.
With the family growing up and becoming more self-sufficient, my wife and I are enjoying the increased opportunities to socialise and take our young terrier cross Millie on long walks through the Derbyshire countryside.
