Further guidance on The Restart Grant scheme, which will help businesses reopen safely as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, has been published.

The scheme was announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak in the Spring Budget, and grants will be available from 1 April 2021.

This grant replaces the Local Restrictions Support Grant from April 2021 onwards.

Eligibility

Your business may be eligible if it:

  • is based in England
  • is rate-paying
  • is in the non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care or gym sectors
  • was trading on 1 April 2021

What is available?

The Restart Grant is a one-off lump sum payment from 1 April 2021.

HOSPITALITY, ACCOMODATION, LESIURE, PERSONAL CARE AND GYMS

Rateable value £15,000 or under Over £15,000 and less than £51,000 £51,000 or above
Grant available £8,000 £12,000 £18,000

NON-ESSENTIAL RETAIL BUSINESSES

Rateable value £15,000 or under Over £15,000 and less than £51,000 £51,000 or above
Grant available £2,667 £4,000 £6,000

How to apply

Local authorities will be responsible for delivering the funding to eligible businesses.

As this scheme replaces the Local Restrictions Support Grant, it is likely that businesses who have been in receipt of this, will receive an automatic Restart Grant payment.

However, we would recommend consulting your local council’s website to find out how to apply.

Local authorities are also required to undertake prepayment checks for all Restart Grant payments, which has not been required for previous business support grant schemes.

We are on hand to offer our guidance and advice as businesses navigate the changes as COVID-19 restrictions begin to be lifted. If you would like to discuss your business, or any of the support available, please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of our team today.
