HMRC scam phone calls

Posted on 4 September 2017

HRMC has warned of a new scam that is currently circulating, targeting taxpayers.

The scam, though not limited to, is generally targeting the elderly population. Clients are receiving an automated answerphone message claiming that HMRC are pursuing a lawsuit against the individual and is going to sue them. The recipient is then asked to phone a number and press “1” to speak to the officer dealing with the case.

Whilst the scam is becoming widely reported, we warn you to be extremely vigilant. If you cannot verify the identity of the person making the call you should not disclose your details. Government bodies such as HMRC will never ask you to disclose personal or financial information over the phone. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
