Golf day raises money for local charity

Posted on 23 September 2014

Smith Cooper, a Midlands based accountancy and business advisory firm raised £2,250 for their chosen charity Treetops Hospice at their annual golf event which was held at Breadsall Priory in Derby.

The all-day event saw 72 golfers play 18 holes for a charity which provides respite and palliative care for adults with illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis. It also provides help and support to their carers and families.

The event was rounded off with prize giving and also included a silent auction and a raffle prize draw with many of the prizes being donated by local companies attending the day.

A hole-in-one was recorded on the day: by Neil King of Cedar & Co with Freeths winning the overall competition, closely followed by Yorkshire Bank and Fraser Brown solicitors.

Dean Nelson, Partner at Smith Cooper commented: “Treetops is a great charity and a worthwhile cause as they help the community through some of the most difficult times anyone has to face. The work their team do is amazing and we are proud to be associated and support them.”

Dean added: “We chose to do a golf day as it is something that we all enjoy and the format helps raise money for a great cause. I want to thank our clients and connectors / intermediaries who supported the event and we wouldn’t have been able to raise such a fantastic amount without their generosity and donation of prizes.

The day was about the local community coming together and raising money for a fantastic charity. We aim to continue our support throughout the rest of the year with more events planned.”
