The Turnaround, Restructuring & Insolvency (TRI) Awards champion pioneers and leaders operating within the Insolvency industry – so we’re therefore delighted to announce that our specialist Business Recovery and Insolvency team (BRI) have been shortlisted for not one, but two awards!

The team are up for Corporate Restructuring Firm of the Year (4 to 10 licensed appointment taking Insolvency Practitioners) as well as Regional Insolvency Team of the Year, which we were awarded last year.

Our BRI division is a leading Insolvency team and top 100 Insolvency practice, known for their provision of candid, proactive advice that is both commercially and strategically viable, delivered in a timely manner when people need it the most, often with unparalleled outcomes.

The team continue to go from strength to strength, with total turnover for the division growing 40% from 2017 to 2018, and a further 21% from 2018 to 2019, constituting 9% of Smith Cooper’s total group revenue for the financial year to 31 March 2019. To bolster this expansion, Ross Welham recently joined the Team as Director at our Cambridge office, bringing with him 15 years of experience in the BRI industry and an excellent reputation in advising distressed businesses and individuals.

The team have acted on many high-profile cases in the last year, including the notable sale of the multi-award winning Bodnant Welsh Food Centre, which was facing intense financial pressures and complete closure, to the recovery of £3.5million of debt in an unprecedented legal assignment involving solicitors’ practice, Adams Moore Law.

Dean Nelson, Head of BRI at Smith Cooper comments “Our specialist BRI team has been established for 10 years, and in that period we have achieved great levels of growth and success, driven by our passion to go the extra mile for creditors and companies in distress during turbulent financial periods.”

“We are privileged to have been shortlisted for two awards by the most distinguished awards body in the industry, and I am continually proud of the team and what they continue to achieve.”

The team regularly contribute to the wider corporate restructuring and insolvency profession, raising awareness of insolvency and restructuring as a legal process and increasing and enhancing public perception of the profession, often publishing case studies, press releases and articles on recognising warning signals, addressing such issues and implementing solutions.

Smith Coopers BRI team also hold regular events which are free to attend, aimed at a multitude of professionals and provide insight into how other internal services compliment the work that the insolvency team do. If you would be interested to attend such an event going forward, please email [email protected] to register your interest.

The winners of the TRI awards will be announced at the official awards ceremony, taking place on 13th November at the Hilton London Bankside Hotel.
