Smith Cooper expand their Lace Market Square premises

Posted on 28 October 2014

Smith Cooper, who currently reside in a Grade A office in the heart of the Lace Market, have had to redevelop their space following high levels of growth.

The company, which has more than 180 employees firm wide, moved to 2 Lace Market Square in 2011. 3 years later the staff number in Nottingham has increased to such an extent that it left the firm with two options – to relocate or to redevelop their current space.

James Bagley, Managing Partner of the Nottingham office commented: “Although our initial relocation to the Lace Market was part of a growth strategy, our increase in staffing due to a number of major client wins and further diversification of our specialist teams has meant that we have outgrown the premises sooner than expected. Since moving, we now have Nottingham based Corporate Finance, Corporate Recovery and Tax Advisory teams headed up by Chris Taylor, Michael Roome and Richard Stanley respectively. We have consistenly met and exceeded all of our growth targets and are delighted to expand our operations in Nottingham.”

The firm operates a policy of utilising clients’ services whenever possible and have involved Butler & Willow, Midlands based office design and fit out specialists, who are overseeing the redevelopment to the building which Smith Cooper currently lease from another of their clients, Bildurn.

James Willow, Managing Director of Butler & Willow said: “our first priority was to investigate ways in which to maximise the available space for the Smith Cooper team whilst ensuring the environment was optimised for the benefit of the business, their visitors and of course, the employees. As part of the redevelopment we have given detailed attention to the office design making sure that it successfully reflects the company image whilst also allowing for a further period of growth, and I’m pleased to say it looks fantastic!”

To ensure minimum disruption to the firm, Butler & Willow completed the work in 48 hours over a weekend.

James Bagley added: “The area we are in at the moment is thriving and part of a fantastic business community so we were reluctant to relocate again. We would like to thank both Bildurn and Butler & Willow who have been extremely supportive during the redevelopment and have made a great working environment for our growing team.”
