Posted on 20 March 2017

The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) East Midlands rewarded outstanding talent and potential at their annual award and dinner held on 17th March.

The prestigious event, which had over 250 chartered accountants and guests in attendance at Eastwood Hall, saw six awards handed out recognising the top of the accountancy profession in the East Midlands.

Scooping two of the six awards, Smith Cooper, currently 54 in Accountancy Age’s Top 50 + 50 UK’s top accounting firms, won the Medium Accountancy Firm of the Year award with Managing Partner, James Bagley, winning the award for the Young Chartered Accountant of the Year.

The coveted Medium Accountancy Firm of the Year award follows a successful year for the firm where they won the SME Deal of the Year and SME Advisory Team of the Year awards at the Insider Dealmaker Awards, and were nominated as finalists in both the Insolvency Team of the Year and Insolvency Manager of the Year awards at the prestigious TRI Awards.

The Young Chartered Accountant of the Year award recognises the excellence of young professionals within the accounting sector.

James joined Smith Cooper as a graduate and worked his way through the ranks becoming Managing Partner of the firm at the age of just 33. James was recognised for his quick progression, the work he has done for clients of the firm and the success of his role at Smith Cooper where he is responsible for the strategic planning and growth of the firm and their group companies.

James Bagley commented, “I’m immensely proud of the growth that Smith Cooper has achieved and to win the award of Young Chartered Accountant of the Year is a great achievement, however, I couldn’t have done it without the support of the Smith Cooper team.

“Over the past years, Smith Cooper has gone from strength to strength and has continued to grow even through challenging business environments. Innovating new ideas, developing and diversifying our service offering and attracting and retaining a talented workforce have been areas of focus for our firm, so to be recognised for our efforts by such high calibre judges and our Professional Body is tremendous feeling.

“Our goal for the future is to continue to grow our business through investment in our people, services and clients. We aim to be the ‘go to’ firm for business advice for ambitious owner-managed businesses across the entire Midland region.”

Smith Cooper also offer independent financial advice, Sage software sales and support, managed IT services and mortgages.
