Every year we raise the issue of HMRC targeting the middle market, and every year HMRC prove our point.

In the past year we have seen a further rise in the number of employer compliance inspections, National Minimum Wage inspections and ad hoc “risk” specific enquiries. All this on top of even more complex changes to the legislation, and HMRC’s interpretation of that legislation, means that it is more important than ever that employers are aware of the potential risks and manage their compliance effectively.

Smith Cooper’s Employment Tax seminar, which will be held in three locations, Derby, Nottingham and Birmingham, will provide you with the latest information and tips to help you identify and manage your potential risks. This year’s topics will include:

  • Effective Employer Compliance
Last year we took you through a typical HMRC Employer compliance inspection from start to finish. This year we will concentrate on how to demonstrate ‘competent compliance’ and good governance.
  • National Minimum Wage Inspections
Typically the most time consuming and costly inspections. We will discuss the basic processes that you can evidence that will help to get HMRC out of the door empty handed rather than taking up residence in your office!
  • IR35 Intermediaries Legislation
It is already an issue for the Public Sector, and it is coming to the Private Sector soon. The Public Sector experience has shown that early preparation is key. We will tell you why, and how.
  • April Round Up
Everything that you need to be aware of from April 2019, and some money saving opportunities.
