Smith Cooper advised Hyperama on the acquisition of the trade and assets from Sohal Foods Limited by way of a pre-pack Administration.

Smith Cooper  advised £120 million turnover wholesale cash and carry business, Hyperama plc, in its acquisition of Sohal Foods Limited from administration. Smith Cooper formulated an offer for the business and its assets, negotiating terms with the administrator and landlord, and liaising with the solicitors over the sale and purchase agreement.

Sohal Foods is an £8m turnover catering and drinks specialist wholesaler based in Derby, predominantly supplying Asian Restaurants and Convenience Stores.

Commenting on the deal Marcus Singh, Managing Director, of Hyperama said “the management team at Hyperama are delighted with this acquisition and the opportunities that it presents for the overall group. We feel that we can grow the business by introducing our better buying power and range into Sohal Foods whilst incorporating their outstanding customer service and delivery offering into Hyperama. Rather than cutting costs, we are keeping on all the staff and will be investing heavily into the business infrastructure to give it the necessary impetus.”

The Derby acquisition takes Hyperama’s number of outlets to 4, together with its existing sites in Nottingham, West Bromwich and Peterborough. Hyperama is a family owned business employing 300 staff.
