Client Quote "Smith Cooper have enabled us to successfully integrate the new EPOS system into our store totally hassle free. Their expertise and efficiency meant that the new system was up and running in a matter of hours without any interruption to business.
The system itself has meant that we have halved our time doing lengthy close of day procedures, we can ensure the correct postings are done through to Our Sage Accounts package instantly as the sale is made and that our customers receive a much more streamlined, professional and accurate service when they visit our store.
The Overall implementation of such a system has certainly helped us keep up with changing trends and the rapid growth that we are experiencing at Drum Stop. Without this system I can’t begin to imagine how much work would be involved at our current level of trade. The package has grown with us and the stock system and barcoding is now something that we all rely on"

Business Need
Drum Stop are one of the UK's leading suppliers of Drum Kits, Cymbals, Drumming Hardware, Percussion and Accessories and are one of the Top UK Dealers for some of the Biggest Names in Drums providing Drum Kit packages and Shell sets from Beginners right through to the Pro’s from Pearl, Tama, Mapex, Ludwig, Yamaha, Sonor and Leedy and Electronic Drum Kits from Yamaha including the DTXplorer and DTXpress.
The store is based in Chesterfield and has been using Sage Instant Accounts for a number of years and were using a PC on the counter to handle all sales. This sometimes meant that clients details had to be entered into Sage while they waited and stock lookups had to be performed to discover prices. Cash receipts were then posted manually at the end of the day and allocated to the sales.
Drum Stop wanted to introduce an Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) solution to the counter to speed up this process and provide a printed receipt.
The Solution
After an initial consultation Smith Cooper suggested Sage PayPoint, Sage’s own retail solution that links directly to Sage accounting products. PayPoint uses either PC’s or PC based touch Screen Tills to allow users to scan and select products with the customer present producing both a receipt and post the cash to the back office Sage system.
Drum Stop wanted to continue to use the PC but take advantage of PayPoints integration with Sage. PayPoint required Sage Line 50 and the relevant hardware so Smith Cooper provided an upgrade to Line 50 Accountant, the PayPoint Software, a thermal printer, cash drawer and Bluetooth Scanner.
Once installed full training and screen customization was carried out by Smith Cooper to tailor the system to Drum Stops requirements.
The Benefits
The introduction of Sage PayPoint has presented a number of benefits to Drum Stop. The main benefit is the speed and accuracy in which a sale can be made. This is mainly due to the bar coding that allows an item to scanned and immediately identified.
When a customer purchases an item at the till the items bar code can be scanned and displayed on the screen. Once all of the items are scanned on the system the tender type can be entered and taken. This then produced a branded receipt and opens the cash drawer. All sales and takings are automatically posted into the back office Sage Line 50 system where the allocation, bank and VAT is taken care of automatically.
If the customer is an account customer the transaction can be posted directly into their account and an invoice automatically generated. This saves the time of manually entering the details.
