Nottingham office gears up for growth
Monday, 3rd May 2010

Our Nottingham office is gearing up for growth as the tentative recovery improves business confidence. Chris Taylor joins us from technology company LifeSys but is better known as one of the founders of Nottingham corporate finance boutique Catalyst. Chris is now installed as MD of the Nottingham office. Apart from a brief spell in Milton Keynes, Chris has been based in the East Midlands his entire career. He graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Accounting & Finance and after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant joined Coopers & Lybrand, becoming part of the first corporate finance team based in the East Midlands.

In 1992 Chris was headhunted to join KPMG’s highly successful Corporate Finance team and offered a partnership five years later, which he turned down. Instead he created Catalyst alongside two partners, a business that was to grow significantly over the following 9 years by providing market-leading client service.

Chris says: “It’s really great to be back in the Nottingham professional community. I tried my hand at something different but really missed the service sector and working alongside Nottingham’s happy band of bankers, lawyers and accountants. I’m now 100% focused on growing the Smith Cooper business and delivering advice to our fantastic client base.”

At the same time as Chris arrived, Kelly Boorman has been promoted to Partner. Her appointment not only reflects her strong personal commitment to the firm but also recent client gains in the Nottingham office.

Kelly has progressed rapidly through her roles since joining the firm in 2004 and now advises clients in sectors such as construction, charities, not-for-profit organisations and IFA’s.

Kelly is also highly active in the community, being on the Board of Governors at Leen Mills Primary School and the Galleries of Justice. Her interests include the sport boxing and supporting her son who competes for Bilborough Boxing Club.

Kelly comments: “I am delighted to have become a partner at Smith Cooper and look forward to playing a proactive role in the continued growth of the firm.”
