Smith Cooper and World’s ‘worst’ dog raise funds for RSPCA
Monday, 14th December 2009

Nottingham-based chartered accountants and business advisors, Smith Cooper have raised more than £400 for the RSPCA Radcliffe Shelter Trust after inviting businesses from across the city to attend a special screening of the film ‘Marley and Me’.

Smith Cooper, which is based on Haydn Road, joined forces with Savoy Cinemas, Venture 4 Life and the Animal Shelter Trust to host the event, which took place at The Savoy Cinema on Derby Road.

Guests were treated to a buffet and drinks reception provided by Venture 4 Life via their Food 4 Life mission, before the showing of this year’s tear-jerking blockbuster.

Venture4Life delivers successful education and enrichment programmes to mainstream and special needs students aged 14-19. Students selected for the Food4life programme are given the opportunity to work in a bistro restaurant, serving a scholarship that qualifies, remunerates and delivers real-time experience in a working environment.

Commenting on the fundraising event The charity’s Director, Darrell West said:

“We were delighted to be involved with this event, which gave our students the opportunity to showcase their talents.”

The proceeds of the screening will go to The RSPCA Radcliffe Shelter Trust, which is entirely self-funded. The charity, which receives no money from the Government, the national RSPCA, the National Lottery fund or local authorities, provides loving and permanent homes for animals, whilst giving them all the love and care they need before they are re-homed.

The organisation helps animals that are lost, injured or unable to be looked after by their owners. They never put a healthy animal to sleep and all dogs and cats are vaccinated, neutered, wormed and micro-chipped.

Commenting on the screening, Steve Adcock, partner at Smith Cooper, said:

“The Radcliffe RSPCA is an extremely worthy cause and its volunteers are devoted to caring for animals. We were delighted to host this event with Savoy Cinemas and Venture 4 Life and would like to thank all our guests who came and supported the charity.

Claire Bicknell, Smith Cooper’s Business Development Director, added:

“I would like to extend our thanks to Savoy Cinemas for providing the venue for the screening and to Venture 4 Life for providing the catering.”

David Stearn, centre manager at The RSPCA Radcliffe Shelter Trust added:

“Thanks go out to Smith Cooper for their help in raising funds through this event. We are a self funded charity and rely on this kind of support to keep running the centre.”
