I am Senior Partner of Smith Cooper and based in the Derby office, specialising in advising small to medium sized family businesses.
What can I do for your organisation?
I try to make the world of accounting and tax understandable to the self made businessman - I like plain English!
I was born and brought up in Derby and studied at Manchester University where I obtained an honours degree in Economics. I qualified as an accountant in 1980 having trained with Cooper Parry and then took up an exciting opportunity to work in industry – in the motor sector, where I spent three very enjoyable years.
In 1984, I was offered a managerial position with the Cooper Parry firm I trained with, which subsequently became Smith Cooper and the following year I was made Partner.
I work with family businesses, predominantly in the construction, transport and motor industries, providing pragmatic accountancy and tax advice.
Having worked in industry, I am aware of the concerns and priorities facing business owners and so can ensure that they receive timely and relevant advice in a straightforward way.
I could be described as the 'token male' as my wife and I have 6 daughters. I like to keep fit and enjoy skiing, playing golf, tennis and running.
