I am Director of Audit, based at Smith Cooper’s Birmingham office. I am a business advisor and registered auditor and have over 30 years’ experience with a particular focus in the manufacturing sector.
What can I do for your organisation?
I lead the Smith Cooper team to ensure that you receive a first class and personal service from our highly experienced team. As a registered auditor, I can help your organisation with financial reporting and delivering assurance to shareholders. I can also offer general business advice drawing on my years of financial and audit experience.
I have worked in the West Midlands for more than 30 years, mostly as a partner providing audit, financial reporting, deal support and strategic business advice.
I joined Smith Cooper’s audit team in 2011. Before this, I had worked mainly with two of the national accountancy firms, where my experience ranged from start-ups to listed companies including some well-known brand names. Over the years I have worked with clients in the public and not-for-profit sectors and most sectors of the UK economy. This broad based background gives me the knowledge to be the highly experienced business advisor I am today.
My extensive experience of working with organisations in many sectors enables me to share best practice and deliver effective and valuable advice.
In my role I am focussed on advising entrepreneurs and businesses in the West Midlands; my client base reflects the diversity of the regional economy. Some of my work involves financial due diligence and similar reporting for lenders.
I have previously been the president of the Birmingham and West Midlands Society of Chartered Accountants. I have also been a governor of three schools and a board member of a local housing association.
From the start of my career I have worked with clients in manufacturing and this sector remains a focus for me. I have significant experience of working with wholesale and distribution clients, property investors (including care homes and hotel operators) and a variety of service providers including schools (and now academies) and professional service providers.
Away from professional life I enjoy cycling (sometimes I leave the car at home and cycle to the office), time spent with my family and in helping my wife with the on-going tasks in a large garden. I am a member of Edgbaston Priory Tennis Club and Moseley Rugby Club – neither in a playing capacity!
