Midland-based professional services firm, Smith Cooper, has appointed Jackie Hendley as its Head of Office for Birmingham.
A former tax partner at KPMG in Birmingham, Jackie Hendley will replace Jeremy Cope who will focus on developing the company’s audit and accountancy division in the city.
Commenting upon her appointment, Jackie Hendley said:
“2015 is going to present challenges for small to medium sized businesses across the region. Not only do they have to operate in an environment of economic uncertainty, but with a General Election looming, the swell of unpredictability could begin to impact investment plans. However, with every challenge comes an opportunity and 2015 will see the finalisation of a number of key projects for Birmingham, including the completion of New Street Station and John Lewis; the metro extension and the Genting Casino at the NEC. All of these projects create opportunities for local businesses and they must ensure they are well positioned to take realise the growth potential.
“Trusted advisers that can work alongside businesses during periods of change and beyond is critically important in maintaining and growing the contribution that this important element of the UK economy makes.
“As Head of Office for Smith Cooper in Birmingham, my role will be to ensure we deliver a multi disciplinary service to the region’s small to medium sized enterprises, working alongside our clients and allowing them to be sure of the decisions they make.”
According to Jackie Hendley, while 2015 will present challenges, there are also lots of opportunities for companies with strong foundations. She said:
“It’s an exciting time to be an SME in Birmingham and the wider Midlands. The work being undertaken by the LEPs to help create the right environment for business, together with the opportunities being delivered through inward investment and major infrastructure projects, such as HS2, will create fertile ground for businesses.
“If the level of uncertainty can be managed and businesses remain confident, 2015 could prove to be a positive year for many.”
The appointment follows Smith Cooper’s relocation to premises in Edmund Street, which provides them with the capacity to continue to invest in their headcount and to grow the office to a comparative size of its East Midlands practice.
2014 has been a good year for Smith Cooper, with double digit growth across the firm. They now employ just under 200 people across eight offices in the region. According to Jackie Hendley, there is more to come as interest in Smith Cooper in the West Midlands continues to resonate with SMEs. She said:
“Smith Cooper understands SMEs because we are one. We understand the challenges they face, both during periods of strong economic growth and economic turbulence.
This is resonating with management teams across the West Midlands and as such, we are seeing increasing numbers of the region’s businesses choosing to work with us.”
Andy Delve, Managing Partner of Smith Cooper said:
“Jeremy has laid very strong foundations for Smith Cooper in the Birmingham market place and he will continue to play an instrumental role as he turns his attention to the office’s audit and accountancy division.
“Jackie is well known among the Birmingham business community having worked in the city for over 20 years advising many local clients and holding positions such as Chair of Birmingham Forward.
“Since joining the team 18 months ago, Jackie has been instrumental in driving the business in Birmingham and there’s no doubt she will be a catalyst for further growth as we look to 2015 and beyond across the region.”
