The Birmingham office of Midlands accountants and business advisory firm Smith Cooper has further strengthened its West Midlands operation with the appointments of Charlotte Herbert and Rebecca Hanlon.
Charlotte and Rebecca join Smith Cooper’s growing tax team and will report to Tax Partner Jackie Hendley. The firm, which provides accountancy and business advisory services to family businesses, SMEs and high net worth individuals across the Midlands, employs over 150 people with the new additions taking Smith Cooper’s Birmingham operation to a 15-strong team in line with the office’s ongoing expansion plans.
Charlotte joins the business as Tax Assistant, having spent six years at Robert Whowell and Partners. As well as assisting with general tax, Charlotte will have a key focus on VAT and is also looking to complete her chartered accountancy qualifications. Charlotte will help to support Smith Cooper in delivering professional advice for its extensive client base of entrepreneurial SME businesses, and will assist the firm in the growth of its specialist tax team.
Rebecca, an accountancy student at the University of Worcester, is completing a 12 month work placement as part of the firm’s rolling training programme for university students. She will gain experience working across audit, accounts and tax, and will learn more about the accountancy profession, providing valuable insight for her future career choices.
Jackie Hendley, Tax Partner at Smith Cooper, said: “Charlotte has built up valuable experience during her time at Robert Whowell and Partners, which will provide a sound backdrop for future development as she joins our growing Birmingham team.
“Rebecca shows a clear passion for accountancy, and this year of experience at Smith Cooper will provide her with a real insight into what is it like to work within the profession and help to develop her skill set.
We’re committed to offering our clients the best and most comprehensive service possible, and it has been an exciting year for us with so many recruits firm wide. We expect even more in line with our long-term strategy to grow our team in Birmingham as we continue to provide effective tax management advice and support to our clients.”
Charlotte Herbert said: “Smith Cooper has a fantastic reputation and is recognised as being one of the most progressive firms in the Midlands, and when I was looking to take the next step in my career development, the firm was an obvious fit for my ambitions.
“I feel extremely proud to be joining such a well-respected consultancy firm, and to be working alongside Jackie and the rest of the team to deliver specialist services to its extensive client base.”
