Birchover Hotel Apartments has been bought by the incumbent management team of Carl and Lisa Bridge. The buy-out follows a period of sustained success at the apart-hotel, with the married couple planning continued growth at the company.
The business, which has been owned by John Gould since its inception twenty years ago, has enjoyed rapid growth in the last three years and won a flurry of awards as 2012 came to a close. Commenting on the sale, Mr Gould stated “We were one of the pioneers of the serviced apartment concept back in the 1990s and the key principles of that concept – offering space, quality and comfort, not to mention the sauna in every apartment! – have been central to the business throughout this time. This provided the platform for growth seen in the past three years. I’m delighted that Carl and Lisa can take the business on to the next level and wish them every success”.
Birchover received awards at the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Family Business Awards ceremonies for Service Excellence, Commitment to People Development and Commitment to the Community. Lisa Bridge commented “The quality of the housekeeping and reception team has provided a bedrock for our success and we’re delighted that we can all work together to achieve our ambitions going forward”.
Under the stewardship of Carl and Lisa, the hotel has risen from 26th to 1st on Trip Advisor in Derby and revenues have trebled in less than three years. Carl Bridge attributes the success to “a really great value offering. We offer a competitive rate for the apartments, given their size and the fact that they have saunas, free parking and free Wifi. This gives a real ‘Wow’ factor when guests arrive for the first time and much of our success has been built on long-term bookings and regular business from corporate guests who stay every week, in addition to leisure guests who return time after time. The reviews on independent websites do the job for us really!”.
The new company will be called Birchover Hotel Apartments Limited. David Nelson of Smith Cooper has led the negotiations on behalf of BHA Limited and Mr Bridge stated “David has been instrumental in bringing the parties together to effect a deal at a realistic valuation, carried out at great speed and with consideration of the roles of all parties involved. We have no hesitation in continuing to work with David and Smith Cooper to assist us in growing the business further. It has been a fantastic experience throughout”.
