Smith Cooper expand private client service offering with appointment of new Partner

Posted on 5 May 2015

Smith Cooper accountancy and business advisory firm today announced the appointment of Catherine Desmond as Partner to enhance the firm's private client services across the Midlands.

Catherine joins the firm from the Private Client department of Saffery Champness where she specialised in advising clients across a range of sectors, including predominantly family businesses and landed estates.

In her new role at Smith Cooper, Catherine will be concentrating on further developing the range of tax planning services the firm offer their private clients.  Her work will focus particularly on the agricultural sector and landed estates, an area Catherine has extensive experience in.

Catherine’s appointment comes at a time where tax planning is very much in the news, she said "we hear a lot about the negative side of tax planning in the form of avoidance from the media and current political debate.  What I and Smith Cooper offer is long term, sensible tax planning based upon a very deep and personal knowledge of clients, their families and their businesses.  Long term  planning is about exploring wider needs and goals, the days of quick fix tax schemes are largely numbered!"

Catherine commented: “I’m excited to be joining Smith Cooper’s highly regarded practice. For many years, Smith Cooper have been at the forefront of assisting clients to successfully deal with a wide variety of issues so further developing the private client offering is a natural complement to the services the firm already offer.

Managing Partner of Smith Cooper, Andrew Delve added: “Our expanding service offering is a direct response to the needs of our clients and shows our commitment to ensuring we have the best talent on hand to deal with all business and personal advisory needs.

We are delighted to welcome an advisor of Catherine’s calibre to our talented team here at Smith Cooper. Catherine brings with her a strong set of complementary skills that will further strengthen our tax team and will be instrumental as we continue to develop our tax planning services. Catherine also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the agricultural sector and we look forward to her playing a key role in advising our clients.”
